Frequently asked questions
Are these passwords truly random?
Yes. They are generated with the Web Crypto API (crypto.getRandomValues), a cryptographically secure random source, and rejection sampling so every character is equally likely. Passwords are created on your device and never sent or stored anywhere.
How long should my password be?
For important accounts aim for at least 16 characters with mixed character types — around 100 bits of entropy — or a passphrase of 5–6 random words. Longer is always stronger, and a password manager makes long passwords painless.
Password or passphrase — which is better?
Both are secure when generated randomly. Random-character passwords pack more strength into fewer characters, while passphrases such as "Maple-Otter-Lunar7-Quest-Harbor" are much easier to type and remember for master passwords.
What does entropy mean?
Entropy measures how unpredictable a password is, in bits. Each extra bit doubles the number of guesses an attacker needs. Under 36 bits is weak, 60+ is strong for most uses, and 80+ bits is very strong even against offline attacks.
