Frequently asked questions
How does the word counter count words?
A word is any run of letters or numbers, so contractions like "don't" and hyphenated words like "well-known" count as one word. Punctuation, emoji and extra spaces are ignored, matching how Google Docs and Microsoft Word count.
How is reading time calculated?
Reading time assumes an average silent reading speed of about 238 words per minute, and speaking time assumes about 130 words per minute — typical for presentations and speeches.
What is keyword density and what is a good value?
Keyword density is how often a word appears as a percentage of all words. Common stop words such as "the" and "and" are excluded. For SEO, aim for natural writing — a main keyword around 1–2% is usually plenty; much higher can read as keyword stuffing.
Is my text saved or uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything is counted locally in your browser as you type. Your text is never sent to a server or stored.
